Safe & Sound Protocol

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is an acoustic vagus nerve stimulator developed by Dr. Stephen Porges based on his Polyvagal Theory. The purpose of this auditory intervention is to access a physiological state conducive to well-being, positive engagement with others, and growth in learning and therapy.

By helping to access this calm and grounded state, the SSP promotes a neural platform for health, growth and restoration in patients experiencing the following challenges:

  • Anxiety

  • Inattention and Focus

  • Auditory sensitivities

  • Behavioral Regulation and Resilience

  • Physical Coordination and Balance

  • Reading and Auditory Processing

  • Sleep

  • Speech and Language

  • Social and emotional difficulties

  • Trauma and PTSD

  • Stressors that impact social engagement

The Listening Program

The Listening Program® is not like any music you’ve heard before. It’s more than music. It’s music that works—to improve your mental, physical, and emotional health.

All TLP music has been painstakingly recorded and engineered and features performances by world-class musicians including the award-winning Arcangelos Chamber Ensemble (under the musical direction of Richard Lawrence) and composer and master ethno-percussionist Nacho Arimany, among others.

Using the highest audio quality recording technology (high-definition sound) and advanced neuro-acoustic techniques, TLP music has been acoustically modified to train your brain. It strengthens neurological pathways so you can improve your ability to learn, communicate, and process information.

Art & Sandtray Therapy

Art and sandtray therapy can be used to create a safe, protected space to complement talk therapy and engage the mind-body connection to help a person face distress and trauma in a nonverbal manner. Although this type of therapy is used most often with children, art and sandtray therapy also can be helpful for teens and adults. Research shows that it can help increase emotional expression while reducing the psychological distress that may come from discussing traumatic events or experiences.

In art therapy, the creative process is used to help you express and understand how you think, feel, and act on a deeper level.

Sandtray therapy is similar in that the approach is based in nonverbal self-expression. Rather than using art materials, you utilize a large wooden tray of sand and miniature figurines as your tools. The therapist is highly trained in aiding the client in interpreting their sand tray scene through archetypes, symbols, metaphors, and sometimes play-based role play.
